Anna and I often get asked why the name SANDY DIGS? To be perfectly honest we couldn’t think of a better name in the beginning and were impatient to get started. We weren’t immediately in love with it but thought it was kinda clever at least. Sandy is neither of our names although we enjoy seeing the odd Sandy take a selfie in front of our stall. As you might have guessed, our label was simply inspired by the sandy beach and South Coast lifestyle. DIGS being slang for home and clothes seemed like a good choice since sand has a way of getting everywhere whilst also providing a beautiful canvas for many of the recreational activities we enjoy in this country. We love watching our kids DIG in the sand, as well as marine life which inspired our ever-popular crab design on our caps. Our older sister’s beach volleyball-playing family appreciated the extra association with their beloved game (think DIG, set, serve if you’re unfamiliar).
While there are many meanings, it seemed fitting enough for a sandy home and coastal life. We were keen to include AUSTRALIA in our branding as we feel extremely proud and grateful for our country and felt together the name captures the essence of our home. The name has grown on us over the past 2 years and we are now confident it was the right choice. We enjoy seeing our customers connect with it and also have a chuckle when we hear comments like “Sandy Digs?...never heard of them!” from people passing at the markets. We proudly embrace our small local status and like many small businesses, generally run the show from home around family. We photograph and model our own stock, store it in the garage and design at the dining table. We have learnt a lot since launching 2 years ago and are really excited for the year ahead. Peace guys and Happy New Year!!
